Lake Region Electric Cooperative Journeyman or Advanced Apprentice Lineworker in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota

Lake Region Electric Cooperative (LREC), located in the lakes country of west-central Minnesota, is a member-owned electric utility serving more than 28,000 member-consumers in the counties of Otter Tail, Wilkin, Grant, Douglas, Clay and Becker. We have an opportunity for a full-time journeyman or advanced apprentice lineworker based out of our Pelican Rapids, MN location. This position is responsible for performing the duties required in the construction, operation, and maintenance of structures, lines and equipment of the distribution and transmission facilities of the Cooperative in a safe, reliable manner. (Advanced apprentice lineworkers are responsible to provide efficient and diligent service while serving as a member of a crew or performing trade skills; additionally, to study, gain knowledge and skills, and complete certification to Journeyman Lineworker.) Build overhead electrical distribution systems within the appropriate specifications, guidelines and standards so that safe, reliable service is provided to the customer. o Construct 1, 2, and 3-phase lines including framing, setting poles, and stringing wire according to all specifications. Perform hot line work. Build underground electrical distribution systems within the appropriate specifications, guidelines and standards so that safe, reliable service is provided to the customer. Maintain the electrical distribution system to ensure its safety and reliability while minimizing any interruption of service. o Perform tree trimming. Maintain street and security lights. Retrofit programs for overhead transformers. Restore power in a safe and timely manner. Responsible for the overall safety of self, assigned Cooperative employees, and the public. Respond to calls related to the natural gas distribution system. o Perform gas leak investigations and repair. Provide assistance in emergency situations. Obtain and maintain Operator Qualifications as required by LRES. Qualifications for the position include: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of technical college electrical lineworker program and/or enrollment in a recognized Journeyman Lineworker Apprenticeship program. Jouneyman Lineworker certification/license, preferred. Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Drivers License. Ability to understand and apply electric terminology, specifications, and codes. Ability to operate various equipment such as bucket trucks, digger trucks, cable plow and backhoe. Ability to communicate clearly. Speak, read and understand English. Basic computer skills. Advanced apprentice, demonstrated ability to apply learned skills and successful completion of books and required hours for apprenticeship program. Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment screening which may include a physical examination, drug screening, background check, reference check, and motor vehicle record check as applicable to the position.
