Apprenticeship Opportunity:

As a Maintenance Technician Apprentice at Caterpillar Skinningrove, you will undertake a Level 3 apprenticeship programme lasting between 36 and 42 months. You will gain practical experience and achieve academic qualifications. In this entry level position, you will have the opportunity to work with and contribute towards a co-operative maintenance team and will develop your communication and interpersonal skills as well as use your initiative. You will be required to interact with hourly and salaried employees at your facility. You will report to Maintenance Supervision for all technical information relating to the maintenance of the plant and equipment.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting continuous improvements in health and safety through development of Risk Assessment, Method Statement and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) to minimize risk when completing maintenance activities.

  • Learn to use computerised systems to aid the completion of routine maintenance, diagnose equipment faults and carry out repairs in a timely manner.

  • Attend academic and training facilities when required and complete all assessments within agreed timescales.

  • Complete all internal on and off the job training to fulfil training matrices and the requirements of the role, including troubleshooting and correcting malfunctions on equipment and machinery; performing preventative maintenance as per schedules; carry out Dynamic Risk Assessments.

  • Fulfil required competencies and complete apprentice logbook.

  • Compliance with safety and quality standards.

  • Compliance with 5S programme and other business improvement initiatives.

  • Display behaviour and conduct fitting with our Values in Action.

  • Train other employees if and when required.

  • Any other appropriate duties.

Minimum requirements (Selected applicants will be invited to attend an assessment centre).

  • 3 GCSE’s at Grade 4 or above (including mathematics, English and science). NB: Applicants may apply with predicted grades. If successful at assessment stage, the job offer will be conditional on achieving the required grades before September 2024.

  • Must be willing to undertake internal and external job and academic training to achieve required qualifications.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a production environment.

Recruitment Process

Stage one – Online Application: The first stage of the process is to complete the online application on or before the closing date. Stage two – Assessment Centre: The half day assessment centre will focus on a range of behaviours such as teamwork, decision-making, communication, and problem-solving. The assessment will comprise a group exercise, a competency-based interview, and a short presentation which will be prepared in advance. Details may vary depending on the specific role you are applying for. Our aim is to make these days fun, inclusive and as relaxed as possible. 

Stage three – Offer/ Feedback: After the assessment centre, the Caterpillar team will extend verbal offers to our chosen candidates, we aim to do this as quickly as possible. Individual feedback will be offered to all candidates who attended the assessment centre.
